Community

Community matters. The Cardinal Independent is proud to have the privilege to serve the Muncie community. As such, thanks in-part to support from our readers, we give back in the following ways…

Free, Independent Journalism

All our articles will be free to the public, like they’ve always been since we’ve launched on March 31, 2025.

While non-critical articles are presented to paid members a day early, in order to keep The CI sustainable, they will become free within no more than a day of publication.

The CI is committed to staying a free voice without institutional support or oversight. We are not for sale.

Free, Independent Radio

The CI Radio Network is more than just music—it’s a utility.

From providing real-time, on-the-ground event coverage to syndicating national programs from the Public News Service and everything in between, CI Radio is your local internet broadcast.

In addition to availability on its own site, CIMuncie.org/radio, at the time of publication, we are Muncie’s only news and radio channel on Roku, and we’re syndicated across various internet radio service providers.

Tip Line

The CI acquired +1 (765) 444-20-CI, which accepts texts and calls as a community tip line.

The TGN Network

While The CI is a news service, we know there’s things happening in the community besides the headlines. On February 27, 2026, The CI launched The TGN as a YouTube Channel and standalone website.

TGN, short for “Town, Gown, Now,” aims to bridge the current “town-gown” divide by serving as a central hub for video content. Specifically, TGN hosts The CI’s video pieces, and will also host lifestyle content, connecting our community.

The CI’s branding will continue to be used in news videos, however, TGN will be the publisher of video content, and the TGN branding will be used on non-news content.

Direct Aid

On February 7, 2026, The CI donated $5 to the Muncie Public Library via the nbkc bank Giving Center.

On February 3, 2026, The CI donated 6 pairs of winter gloves and 2 beanie hats for people in need.
